Free Family Outdoor Showcase at Loch Lomond with SYHA
18/04/2015 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
£20With just over a week to go to SYHA Hostelling Scotland’s SYHActive – a celebration of Scotland’s great outdoors, being staged at Rowardennan Youth Hostel on the shores of Loch Lomond on Saturday 18th April 2015 – it is shaping up to be a great day out for all the family!
SYHActive includes a sponsored duathlon (starting at 10:00) and a free outdoor activity showcase (11:30-16:30) to encourage as many people as possible to experience first-hand the multitude of opportunities Scotland’s stunning countryside has to offer and to highlight all the benefits of outdoor activities and of modern day hostelling.
The showcase will include activity providers Can You Experience and Boots & Paddles, who work with SYHA youth programmes, and Lomond Kayak Club offering family friendly taster sessions for a variety of adventure and team building activities, from canoeing to raft building and archery. Furthermore, C-N-Do Scotland will be providing a self-led orienteering route for all ages.
A number of national outdoor, youth, environmental and wildlife organisations will be attending the showcase, including Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Scouts, RSPB and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. They will bestow the many benefits of Scotland’s great outdoors and the numerous activities, adventures and learning experiences open to those who want to explore it and get the very best out of it all year round. The outdoor retailer Cotswold Outdoor and Scotland Outdoors Magazine will also be attending, as well as local businesses including The Oak Tree Inn and Loch Lomond Brewery.
Refreshments will be available all day, as well as tasty barbecued food on offer in the afternoon. There will also be some child-friendly activities including face painting to keep the young entertained. Live music will be provided by Gary Stewart and the Tin Foil Collective and a solo acoustic set from Ross Clark.
Families will be able to start their outdoor experience with a free return ferry ride across Loch Lomond to Rowardennan Youth Hostel provided by Cruise Loch Lomond for anyone attending SYHActive. Families can leave the car at Luss or Tarbet, experience the serenity of the ‘bonnie banks’ in comfort before enjoying a great day out of doors in Scotland’s first National Park, globally renowned for its natural beauty, history and tranquillity. (please see timetable below).
